How To Use The HeartCheck™ ECG PEN Device

Device Overview



  1. Right index finger Electrode.
  2. USB Interface: Transmit data from the device to a PC through this interface.
  3. Right thumb Electrode.
  4. Display screen: Displays date and time, Heart Rate and analysis result, menu items etc.
  5. Left button: Pressing this button will allow you to sequentially view each operating parameter by one increment. You can also scroll the main menu items by pressing this button.
  6. Right button: Pressing this button will allow you to sequentially view each operating parameter. You can also scroll the main menu items by pressing this button.
  7. POWER Button:
    • Press for 3 seconds to turn the HeartCheck™ PEN device on.
    • Press it for 2 seconds to return to the previous menu.
    • Press for 1 second to confirm your setting selection during use of device (equivalent to the "OK" button).
    Note: The device cannot be powered off by pressing the POWER button. The device will power off automatically based on the power off delay time selected.
  8. START button: Shortcut key for taking measurements. Press this button to start measurements. When operating in "HR Replay" and "Review Recorded HR" items, this key is used as a confirmation key.
  9. Left thumb Electrode.
  10. Left index finger Electrode.
  11. Battery cover.
  12. Clip for attaching the device to clothing.



  • Do not expose the unit to static electricity. Always disperse any static electricity from your body before handling the device.
  • Do not take measurements in a moving vehicle.
  • Do not use a cellular phone near the unit.
  • The chest electrode will be impeded by excessive body hair. Regularly remove hair at the electrode contact area.

Taking Heart Readings




Hand Measurements


1) Press the POWER button to power on the unit.



2) Hold the unit as demonstrated in the figure below.
Press the START button to take a measurement.


Chest Measurements


1) Press the POWER button to power on the unit.



2) Hold the device with your right hand and place
the other electrode against your left chest
on bare skin about 5 cm (2 in) below
the left nipple. Refer to the figure below.
